New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his support to US President Donald Trump’s recently-announced comprehensive plan aimed at ending the ongoing Gaza conflict, calling it a “viable pathway” to sustainable peace in the region.

In a message posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the PM welcomed the peace proposal, stating that it offers a long-term solution that addresses the needs of both Palestinian and Israeli people, and contributes to broader peace and stability in the West Asian region.

“We welcome President Donald J. Trump’s announcement of a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict. It provides a viable pathway to long-term and sustainable peace, security, and development for the Palestinian and Israeli people, as also for the larger West Asian region. We hope that all concerned will come together behind President Trump’s initiative and support this effort to end conflict and secure peace,” the PM posted.

The peace initiative, unveiled in Washington earlier this week, proposes an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, followed by a phased approach to rebuild infrastructure in Gaza, restore essential services, and create economic opportunities. The plan is designed to be implemented with the backing of regional and international stakeholders, including the United Nations and key Arab nations.

A significant element of the proposal includes the establishment of a joint Israeli-Palestinian governance mechanism in Gaza, monitored by a multi-national peacekeeping mission to ensure security and compliance. The initiative also commits resources for humanitarian aid, reconstruction efforts, and confidence-building measures aimed at paving the way for renewed diplomatic talks on a long-term political solution.

India has traditionally maintained a balanced stance on the Israeli-Palestinian issue, supporting the Two-state Solution and advocating for peace through dialogue and negotiation. PM Modi’s public support for the US-led initiative reflects India’s broader strategic vision for stability and development in West Asia, a region of critical importance to India’s energy security and expatriate community.

The announcement has also triggered global reactions, with several nations calling for a renewed commitment to diplomacy and humanitarian support. Observers believe that India’s endorsement could carry weight among non-aligned and developing nations, encouraging more countries to consider backing the Trump plan.

While full details of the initiative are still being assessed by global actors, PM Modi’s statement underscores India’s continued commitment to global peace efforts and its support for meaningful diplomatic solutions in conflict zones.
