New Delhi: In a significant push towards paperless governance, the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), has enabled passport verification records (PVR) on the DigiLocker platform.
DigiLocker, a secure cloud-based platform under the Digital India programme, allows citizens to issue, store, share, and verify digital documents. With the new integration, PVRs can now be accessed, stored, shared and digitally verified through DigiLocker’s ecosystem, eliminating the need for physical records.
Citizens will be able to fetch their PVR under the ‘Issued Documents’ section of their DigiLocker account upon successful verification. The move promises faster verification processes, reduced paperwork, and enhanced convenience for travel, employment, and compliance-related purposes.
“PVRs issued through DigiLocker are tamper-proof, digitally verifiable, and can be shared with authorized agencies instantly, promoting secure, paperless, and citizen-centric service delivery,” MeitY officials said.
The integration supports the government’s broader vision of Digital India, emphasizing transparency, efficiency, and environmentally responsible administration. By digitizing passport-related verification, the initiative is expected to benefit millions of passport holders and applicants across the country.
