New Delhi: Nitin Nabin, who entered politics at the age of 26, is set to become the next national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, making him the first leader from Bihar to hold the party’s top organisational post. He was first elected to the Bihar assembly in a 2006 bypoll from Patna West after the seat fell vacant following the death of his father, veteran BJP leader Navin Kishore Sinha.
Now 45, Nabin has gone on to win five consecutive Assembly elections from the rechristened Bankipur constituency and currently serves as Bihar’s PWD Minister. His elevation once again reflects the BJP’s preference for surprising choices for key positions.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Nabin as a hardworking and committed karyakarta with strong organisational experience and a solid record in governance. BJP president J P Nadda, whose term began in 2020, also congratulated Nabin, expressing confidence in his leadership. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said Nabin’s rise would inspire young party workers.
Nabin has served as BJP in-charge for Chhattisgarh and Sikkim and is credited for the party’s revival in Chhattisgarh. Born in Ranchi, he has consistently won elections by large margins, including over 51,000 votes in the most recent assembly polls.
