Calls it “decisive progress” as indications emerge about the potential release of hostages held since the escalation of conflict in the region

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday welcomed the leadership of US President Donald Trump as negotiations over Gaza made what he called “decisive progress”, particularly with indications emerging about the potential release of hostages held since the escalation of conflict in the region.

In a post on social media platform X, the PM wrote: “We welcome President Trump’s leadership as peace efforts in Gaza make decisive progress. Indications of the release of hostages mark a significant step forward. India will continue to strongly support all efforts towards a durable and just peace.”

The PM’s remarks come amid reports that Hamas has tentatively endorsed key aspects of President Trump’s 20-point Gaza peace plan, which includes a framework for phased ceasefire, humanitarian access, and eventual reconstruction of Gaza under international oversight.

Diplomatic observers see Modi’s message as a reaffirmation of India’s balanced approach — advocating peace, dialogue and humanitarian relief while supporting global initiatives aimed at long-term stability in the Middle East.

Officials in New Delhi reiterated that India has consistently called for an immediate end to violence, the protection of civilians, and the creation of conditions conducive to lasting peace between Israel and Palestine.

The statement also reflects growing international convergence around the need for a comprehensive peace roadmap, with India aligning its support behind US-led mediation efforts that have recently gained traction after months of stalemate.

As global attention remains fixed on the rapidly evolving situation, Modi’s endorsement underscores India’s intent to play a constructive role in promoting regional stability, humanitarian relief, and diplomatic cooperation in West Asia.
