New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with US President Donald Trump on Thursday.
During the telephonic conversation, both leaders reviewed the steady progress in India-US bilateral relations and exchanged views on key regional and global developments. Both leaders reiterated that India and the United States will continue to work closely together to advance global peace, stability, and prosperity.
In a post on X, Modi stated: “Had a very warm and engaging conversation with President Trump. We reviewed the progress in our bilateral relations and discussed regional and international developments. India and the U.S. will continue to work together for global peace, stability and prosperity.”
Following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India — and as the United States and Russia continue discussions on a possible Ukraine peace agreement — the two leaders’ conversation suggests that both countries are open to renewed engagement.
Most areas of cooperation have recently shown improvement, although trade remains a sticking point due to Trump’s decision to levy a 50% import duty on Indian goods. This includes a 25% reciprocal tariff and an additional 25% penalty tied to India’s purchases of Russian oil and defence hardware.
