New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan on Monday at the Al Husseiniya Palace in Amman, where he was accorded a ceremonial welcome on arrival.
The two leaders held discussions in restricted and delegation-level formats. They recalled their previous meetings and underscored the warm and historic ties between India and Jordan. They noted that the visit is historic as it coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. PM Modi appreciated commitment of King Abdullah II to strengthening India-Jordan relations. The Jordan King conveyed strong support for India’s fight against terrorism and condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
The PM appreciated the leadership of King Abdullah II in tackling terrorism, extremism and radicalization, and his contribution to the global fight against these challenges.
The leaders discussed ways to further deepen engagement in areas including trade and investment, defence and security, renewable energy, fertilizer and agriculture, innovation, IT and digital technologies, critical minerals, infrastructure, health and pharmaceuticals, education and capacity building, tourism and heritage, culture, and people-to-people ties.
Noting that India is Jordan’s third-largest trading partner, PM Modi proposed enhancing bilateral trade to $5 billion over the next five years. He also called for collaboration between Jordan’s digital payment system and India’s UPI.
Jordan’s role as an important supplier of fertilizer to India was highlighted, with companies from both sides discussing further substantive investments in Jordan to meet India’s growing demand for phosphatic fertilizers.

The two leaders exchanged views on regional developments and other global issues, reiterating the importance of restoring peace and stability in the region. PM Modi reaffirmed India’s support for efforts aimed at achieving durable peace.
On the occasion of the visit, the two sides finalized MoU in the fields of culture, renewable energy, water management, digital public infrastructure, and a twinning arrangement between Petra and Ellora. These agreements are expected to give a major boost to India-Jordan bilateral ties. The discussions were followed by a banquet dinner hosted by the Jordan King in honour of the Prime Minister. PM Modi, in turn, invited King Abdullah II to visit India, which he accepted.
