New Delhi: Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, has called upon nations to make COP30 the ‘COP of Adaptation’, emphasizing the need to translate global climate commitments into concrete, locally relevant actions. He was addressing the Pre-COP30 Ministerial Roundtable in Brasilia, leading India’s intervention ahead of the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference to be held in Belém, Brazil, from November 10 to 21, 2025.
Marking a decade since the adoption of the Paris Agreement, Yadav underscored that COP30 must send a strong political message reaffirming that multilateralism remains the cornerstone of global climate action. He commended the COP30 presidency for fostering an inclusive platform for open and forward-looking dialogue in the lead-up to the Belém conference.
“The focus must be on transforming climate commitments into real-world actions that accelerate implementation and directly improve people’s lives,” the minister stated.
He stressed that all countries should agree on a minimum package of indicators under the UAE-Belém Work Programme and send an inspiring global message through the Baku Adaptation Road Map to ensure the safety and well-being of billions, leaving no one behind.
Highlighting the crucial role of finance, Yadav called for strengthening and increasing the flow of public funds toward climate adaptation, noting that such efforts could help leverage finance from other sources as well. He cautioned against undermining the Paris Agreement architecture by creating new mechanisms post the first Global Stocktake (GST), urging nations instead to focus on implementing commitments based on their national circumstances.
He noted that India’s global initiatives, including the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, and the International Big Cat Alliance, exemplify its commitment to cooperative, action-oriented multilateralism.
Concluding his address, Yadav urged that COP30 in Belém should reaffirm global faith in multilateralism, equityand collective resolve to deliver real, measurable action for people and the planet.
