India has announced its decision to appoint a Defence Attaché to Brussels, a move that will complement Belgium’s placement of a Defence Attaché in New Delhi. According to Reports, this development marks a significant step forward in deepening bilateral military cooperation and diplomatic engagement between the two nations.
Deepening Defence and Strategic Cooperation
The appointment of the Defence Attaché comes alongside a series of major cooperative agreements. According to reports, India and Belgium have signed eight contracts between arms companies and agreed to appoint Defence Attachés in their respective embassies.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted that significant progress is being observed in defence engagement and production between India and Belgium. This strategic alignment forms part of a broader effort to expand diplomatic and economic horizons, focusing heavily on what officials term the "3Ts"—trade, technology, and talent.
Economic Growth and Clean Energy Agreements
Beyond military ties, the two nations are aggressively scaling up their economic partnership. According to reports, India and Belgium are set to double trade over the next five years.
Furthermore, during Prime Minister De Wever's visit, both countries unveiled 10 key outcomes focusing on clean energy, technology, and strategic cooperation. The discussions also extended to the international stage, with both nations calling for an end to ongoing conflicts in West Asia and Ukraine.
