New Delhi: In a major push towards democratizing access to high-quality digital education, Ashwini Vaishnaw, minister of electronics and IT inaugurated the NIELIT Digital University (NDU) platform in New Delhi on October 2.

During the launch, the minister emphasized the need for aligning education with the evolving demands of the industry. “Three years ago, we envisioned a ‘digital university’. Among many options, NIELIT emerged as the best choice. We must now prepare a list of 500 industry partners across all sectors to ensure our students are trained for real-world needs,” he said.

Highlighting the exponential growth of the electronics manufacturing sector, now worth ₹13 lakh crore, Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed confidence in NIELIT’s ability to reach greater milestones.
As part of the event, five new NIELIT centres were virtually inaugurated at Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Balasore (Odisha), Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh), Daman (Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu) and Lunglei (Mizoram).
Key industry collaborations were formalised through MoUs exchanged with Microsoft, Zscaler, CCRYN, Dixon Technologies and Future Crime. These partnerships aim to strengthen industry-academia ties and tailor NIELIT’s curriculum to meet contemporary industry needs.
“NIELIT is bridging the gap between skill and employability, even in the most challenging terrains,” said S Krishnan, secretary, MeitY
Over 1,500 participants, including students, academicians, and technology experts, attended the event, which also featured interactive stalls showcasing NIELIT’s innovations in digital learning and skill development. The launch marks a significant leap toward building an inclusive, industry-aligned digital education ecosystem in India.
