New Delhi: As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to evolve at an unprecedented pace, ensuring its safe, transparent and trustworthy use has become a national priority. Reinforcing this commitment, IndiaAI, an independent business division under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has announced the selection of five innovative projects under the second round of the ‘Safe & Trusted AI’ Expression of Interest (EoI).
Launched on December 10 last year, the second EoI invited proposals across critical themes focused on AI governance, resilience, and ethics. The initiative drew an overwhelming response, with over 400 proposals received from leading academic institutions, startups, research organisations and civil society groups nationwide.

To ensure a comprehensive and impartial evaluation, a multi-stakeholder expert committee was constituted, providing technical insights and guidance throughout the selection process. The resulting five selected projects collectively translate the principles of ‘Safe & Trusted AI’ into practice — combining resilience testing, bias audits, and the development of tools for responsible AI deployment.
These projects aim to strengthen India’s AI safety ecosystem through real-time deepfake detection, advanced forensic analysis, bias mitigation in AI models, and evaluation tools for generative AI systems. Together, they will contribute to building reliable, secure, and inclusive AI frameworks aligned with India’s socio-technical context.
“The selected initiatives reflect India’s determination to lead in ethical and responsible AI innovation,” an IndiaAI spokesperson said. “By bringing together academia, industry, and civil society, we are shaping an AI ecosystem rooted in trust and transparency.”
As the implementation agency for the IndiaAI Mission, IndiaAI continues to democratize access to AI, foster technological self-reliance, and bolster India’s global leadership in the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
