Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurates ₹1,542 crore railway projects in Gujarat, introducing India's first LNG-powered train and safety upgrades.

Recent developments in western India's transportation sector highlight a major push toward modernization and safety. According to recent reports, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has inaugurated and flagged off critical railway infrastructure initiatives totaling ₹1,542 crore in Gujarat. The rollout, centered in Sabarmati, marks a significant milestone in regional transit enhancement and green energy adoption within the national railway network.

Launch of India's First LNG-Powered Train

A standout feature of the Sabarmati launch event was the introduction of India’s first Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) train. This deployment represents a strategic shift toward alternative, cleaner fuel sources for heavy transport, aligning with broader national sustainability goals.

Line Doubling and Kavach Safety Expansion

Beyond alternative fuel propulsion, the newly sanctioned ₹1,542 crore package heavily targets operational capacity and passenger safety. The initiative incorporates comprehensive line-doubling works designed to ease network congestion and improve train turnaround times across key routes.

Simultaneously, the rollout accelerates the expansion of the indigenous Kavach safety system. This automated train protection technology is critical for preventing collisions and enhancing overall signaling reliability on busy corridors.

Broader Regional Infrastructure Context

The railway investments form part of a broader wave of developmental milestones currently unfolding across the state. As per reports, these transport upgrades follow closely on the heels of separate municipal development packages in Ahmedabad and technical cooperation agreements inked with the Netherlands for the Kalpasar Project.
