The Delhi High Court has declined to restrain a planned protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and its founder Abhijeet Dipke at Connaught Place’s Central Park, clearing the way for the demonstration. The decision, handed down on October 15, sets the stage for the gathering while formalizing safety and management commitments from local law enforcement.
Judicial Oversight and Police Assurance
During the hearings, the High Court formally recorded an assurance provided by the Delhi Police. According to legal updates, law enforcement committed to take "all regulatory steps" as per the law to "regulate and control" the CJP's demonstration. Rather than imposing a blanket restriction on the political entity's right to assemble, the bench opted to monitor the situation through structured police oversight.
Vendor Concerns and Festive Disruptions
The judicial scrutiny arose from a petition filed by a Palika Bazar vendor. The petitioner sought to block the demonstration due to fears of significant business losses. Central Delhi marketplaces routinely experience heavy footfall during the festive season, and vendors argued that protest-related disruptions could severely impact commercial activity in the area. Despite these economic concerns, the court chose not to grant an injunction against the public gathering.
